Rapper Tsu Surf has been sentenced to 60 months in prison after pleading guilty to various charges earlier this year.

Rahjon Cox, known as Tsu Surf, was sentenced on Thursday, November 30, the Department of Justice announced in a press release.

The battle rapper from Newark, New Jersey was sentenced in a crackdown on the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips gang, of which 10 members were charged.

Tsu Surf was sentenced in a New Jersey court

32-year-old Tsu Surf was sentenced to five years imprisonment by Judge Wigenton, along with a three-year period of supervised release and a $15,000 fine. Cox was charged with RICO conspiracy and possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon.

Cox was one of 10 members of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips to be charged under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, which allows people to be arrested for involvement with “criminal enterprises” alongside their individual crimes. The arrests were made as a part of a wider crackdown on organized crime, involving 42 arrests across five investigations in Newark.

According to documents filed as part of the case, Tsu Surf was a member of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips between 2015 and 2022. Cox held a “leadership role” within the group, which the DoJ says was responsible for “acts of violence and the distribution of controlled substances in New Jersey and elsewhere. “

In March 2017, Cox shot a firearm at a gang rival and in 2019, the rapper possessed two loaded firearms in Essex County, New Jersey, despite being a convicted felon.

The rapper pleaded guilty earlier this year

Cox took a deal from the government and pleaded guilty to conspiracy and to possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon back in April.

The rapper wasn’t always so cooperative though and in October 2022, it was reported by Daily Voice Essex that he was seized by the U.S. Marshals Service’s NY NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force after barricading himself in a friend’s Jersey City home. Negotiators also attended the scene.

Cox eventually surrendered and was taken to Essex County Jail, where he has been since.
