Sharmin Segal worked as an assistant director in the 2013 Hindi-language romantic action-drama film Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
She served as an assistant director in the 2014 Hindi-language biographical sports film Mary Kom. Based on the life of the eponymous boxer Mary Kom, the film stars Priyanka Chopra (as Mary Kom), Darshan Kumaar, and Sunil Thapa. The film received the National Film Award for “Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment”.
In 2015, Sharmin Segal was an assistant director for the Hindi-language epic historical romance film Bajirao Mastani. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film revolves around the story of the Maratha Peshwa Bajirao I (1700–1740) and his second wife, Mastani.
Sharmin Segal made her first theatrical film appearance by playing the role of Astha Tripathi (a young woman who relocates from her palatial bungalow into a chawl with her family) in the Hindi-language romantic drama film Malaal in 2019. She co-starred in the film along with Meezaan Jafri. Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Bhushan Kumar, Mahaveer Jain, and Krishan Kumar, the film serves as a remake of the 2004 Tamil-Telugu bilingual film 7G Rainbow Colony.
