Selena Gomez set to produce new TV series
Following on from winning the Biggest Triple Threat Award at the iHeartRadio Awards, it appears that Selena Gomez is about to add producing to her list of talents.
According to Deadline, Gomez is working alongside Aaron Kaplan and is set to executive produce a new TV series for Freeform. The series, billed as the ‘Latina Empire’, is “set in a low income Latino neighbourhood and is told through the eyes of an 18-year-old girl destined for greatness”. The series is yet to be titled and is in the development stage.
It is said that Kaplan was inspired by LA high school senior Ana Cobarrubias during The Zimmer Children’s Museum Discovery Award Dinner last November. Cobarrubias, who will be a consultant on the series, spoke about defying society’s expectations of her. She said “I know I’m more than the general expectations of dropping out of school, getting pregnant, going to jail. I see a strong, confident person who is more than the expectations others have of me.”
The show will be co-produced by Freeform and Universal Cable Prods and Gomez is not expected to star in the series.
