Raquel Rodriguez: The Underdog Is Always Underestimated, But Its Such A Good Story
Raquel Rodriguez is okay with being the underdog.
Rodriguez spoke to Jessica Kleinschmidt of Short and to the Point ahead of her WWE Women’s World Championship match at WWE Payback. Rodriguez talked about being viewed as the underdog against Rhea Ripley and why it’s a good thing.
“I think the underdog is always underestimated,” Rodriguez said. “But it’s such a good story. It’s such a good position to be in because the only way an underdog can go is up. OK, I am the underdog going into this battle. Rhea has been arguably the most dominant female in WWE’s women’s division at the moment. I have yet to have my moment.”
Best Friends, Better Enemies
Raquel Rodriguez’s history with Ripley dates back to their days in WWE NXT. There, they were friends and tag team partners on the live event scene. However, their friendship turned into a bitter rivalry in 2020 and that has yet to be fully repaired.
“We had our little rivalry at NXT. Then things kind of changed when she got called up to RAW. We kind of built back our friendship, and things have been a little different since she’s joined Judgement Day,” Rodriguez added. “I haven’t seen her as much. I haven’t talked to her a lot. Just her overall attitude has been—not the same Rhea that I once knew.”
WrestleZone will have complete coverage of Payback as the event airs.
