Phil had immense potential as a football player, but he chose to quit the sport and pursue his passion for hunting instead. He said that he did not want to miss the duck hunting season, which coincided with the football season. Phil has never regretted his decision, and he has lived a happy and successful life as a hunter, businessman, author and TV personality. In this article, we will take a closer look at the wiki-bio of Phil Robertson.

Net Worth:

Phil Robertson has a net worth of $15 million. He has earned a significant part of his net worth by being a successful hunter and TV personality. He is the patriarch of the Robertson family which owns and operates a multi-million dollar hunting accessory company called Duck Commander. He is also the author of a #1 bestseller memoir called “Happy, Happy, Happy” which has sold close to one million copies to date.

Early Life:

Phil Alexander Robertson was born on the 24th of April, 1946. Born to Merritt and James Robertson, Phil was the fifth child of the pair. Born and raised in Vivian, Louisiana, Phil did not have an easy childhood. Born into economic depravity, Robertsons struggled with making basic needs meet. The family lived in rugged conditions and had to do without electricity. They rarely ventured into the town to collect groceries and consumed whatever grew in the garden. Even though the Robertsons had a hard time living, they were always happy. In his book, Happy, Happy, Happy, Phil revealed, “It was the 1950s when I was a young boy, but we lived like it was the 1850s … but we were always happy, happy, happy no matter the circumstances.”

Life as an athlete:

Phil attended a local high school and was an all-state athlete in football, baseball, and track. After high school, Phil was offered a scholarship to attend Louisiana Tech in Ruston. A first-string quarterback for the Bulldogs, Phil played ahead of Pro Football Hall of Famer, Terry Bradshaw. He joined Tech in 1966 and was a regular starter for two seasons in 1966 and 1967. He sat out the 1968 season and gave up football entirely after college. Many thought that Phil had wasted away his potential, after all, he was so good that he was selected ahead of Bradshaw throughout his college years. While Bradshaw lived and breathed football, Phil loved hunting more than anything. As Bradshaw puts it,

“Phil Robertson, loved hunting more than he loved football. He’d come to practice directly from the woods, squirrel tails hanging out of his pockets, duck feathers on his clothes. Clearly he was a fine shot, so no one complained too much.”

While Phil was offered a chance to play professionally for the Washington Redskins, he declined the offer and went back to hunting.

Career:

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s in education, Robertson spent a long time teaching. He later began working as a commercial fisherman. Dissatisfied with the current condition of Duck Calls, Robertson invented his first Duck Commander call in 1972. The Duck Commander Company was incorporated in 1973 and went on to become a multimillion-dollar business.

Controversies:

While Phil is not much of a media hogger, he does get into quite a lot of controversies. On the 18th of December 2013, Phil was suspended by the A& E Network due to homophobic remarks. In an interview with GQ Phil was asked what he thought was sinful, to which he replied,

“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”

He quoted the bible to hammer his point home by saying,

“Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”
