Jeff Hardy Explains Why He Turned Down WWE Hall Of Fame Induction

Publish date: 2024-06-16

It's WrestleMania season which means WWE is slowly starting to reveal who will be inducted into the Hall Of Fame this year. The Undertaker will finally be going in now that he is definitely done inside the ring. Vader will also be inducted, which is long overdue, and Queen Sharmell rounds out the class for now, with more inductees likely to be announced.

Jeff Hardy's Hall Of Fame

Despite parting ways with WWE at the end of last year, and debuting for AEW earlier this month, there was a chance Jeff Hardy became a Hall Of Famer this year too. Jeff confirmed as much on The Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy this week, explaining why he turned down the opportunity to be immortalized in WWE's Hall.

“It just didn’t feel like the time at all. I almost felt offended. I was very emotional,” Jeff explained. “After my 90 days are up, and the Hall of Fame is in April or whatever, and I do go to AEW, how’s that going to work? What are you trying to hit me with here.” What's interesting is judging by Jeff's comments, WWE offered him a spot in the Hall Of Fame after he had been released, but he admitted to them that he would be signing with AEW before his non-compete clause had come to an end.

Wants To Go In With Matt

“I know I’ve been a very influential person to a lot of young, misunderstood individuals,” Jeff went on to say, admitting that he struggled to fight back tears at the time. He now has the chance to work closely with one of those young stars he has influenced in Darby Allin. It's plain to see Allin's wrestling persona has been inspired by Jeff even without him having to say anything, and their paths have already crossed on Dynamite.

Jeff closed the Hall Of Fame part of his conversation by admitting an induction wouldn't feel right without his brother. If and when he is inducted, he wants it to be as The Hardy Boyz and not as an individual. It will be interesting to see how exactly WWE handles inductions of people wrestling in AEW, if at all. Chris Jericho is the biggest name that leaps off the roster. An obvious Hall Of Famer, but maybe that won't happen until he's done with AEW.
