How To Get Rid Of Greasy Hair At School While You're Rushing Between Classes
Nothing is worse than realizing halfway through the day that your hair is perhaps not as clean as it looked in your dimly lit bathroom. Now that you're in the florescent lights of your school's bathroom, you appear to roughly resemble an oil soaked sponge. But never fear — there are ways to fight mid school day greasy hair! From cool new styles to hide the oil to tools that can help reduce it to plenty of products you can hide in your backpack or locker, you have loads of options for keeping your look in the disheveled-chic category until the end of the day.
There are of course ways to prevent your hair from getting greasy in the first place, but I know it's not always so simple. Life as a student can get a little hectic and overscheduled and as much as we'd like to deny it, sometimes our personal hygiene may be the first thing we let slip. So if you stayed up all night studying for that bio exam (which you of course aced) and didn't have the time or energy to shampoo and condition appropriately, check out these helpful tips on how to trick everyone in your next class into thinking that you totally have your life together.
1. Dry Shampoo
If you've been living under a rock for the last few years and haven't discovered the magic of dry shampoo then wake up girl and get on the dry shampoo bandwagon. All you have to do is spritz a little bit on you greasy roots and work it in with your fingers or a brush.
Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo, $18, Amazon
There are a million different options for you to pick from but one of my favorite is the Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo. It's comes in a travel size (perfect for your backpack), smells great, soaks up excess oil, doesn't leave a big white residue and is super cute to boot!
2. Sleek Ponies
Want to know the number one silver lining of greasy hair? It's basically a built in styling product! Just brush your oily roots into a sleek high pony and secure with a hair tie.
3. Baby Powder
Not just for baby's bums! If you don't have dry shampoo on hand, baby powder can be a great (and generally cheaper) replacement. Just work a little bit into your roots and it will soak up the grease. But be careful: Use too much and you'll start to look a little ghostly.
4. Boar's Hair Brushes
Sephora Collection Dual Boar Paddle Brush, $45, Amazon
Brushing your hair can help break up some of the excess oil at the roots and bring it down through the rest of your hair. Using a boar's hair brush is even more effective at distributing oil than synthetic fibers, so if your regular brush isn't cutting it consider picking one up!
5. Artful Braids
If high ponies aren't your vibe and/or your hair is too short for it, try out some braid work. Putting a French braid or two in the roots of your hair does wonders for concealing the greasiness below. Plus dirty hair braids better than squeaky clean hair so it's a win/win.
6. Salt Spray
We already know that sea salt infused hair isn't just for the beach anymore, but it can also save a bad hair day. Using salt spray on your hair with give it volume and texture, making it look less weighed down with oil.
Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, $27, Amazon
The Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray is a top seller for the lovers of beachy waves. Just spray a little in the bottom half of your hair and tousle until you get the desired effect.
7. Blow Dry Your Roots
Hitting your greasy roots with a little heat breaks up the oil and makes it easier to distribute with a brush. Now I know this one is not the most logistically sound but perhaps you can keep a mini blow dryer in your locker or you can run home during lunch.
Hopefully some of these tips will save you from a greasy hair day. Good luck my sleep deprived, studious comrades!
