Ezra Raymond Pouech Obituary, Death – PACIFICA, Calif. – A profound sense of grief has enveloped the community of Pacifica as it mourns the tragic loss of Ezra Raymond Pouech, a 30-year-old artist and musician from Oakland, who lost his life in a double stabbing incident on Thursday.  Ezra, a beacon of kindness and positivity, met an untimely end at a residence in the 200 block of Naomi Avenue. The San Mateo County Coroner officially identified him as the victim of this heartbreaking incident, characterized by authorities as a domestic violence tragedy.

Ezra’s older sister, Emma Pouech, expressed the profound shock and devastation that has gripped their family. Describing her brother as one of the kindest souls she knew, Emma shared, “Ezra could see there was still so much good and light in the world. Despite everything everywhere, he could still see good in life and beauty in sunsets.” The close bond between the siblings adds an extra layer of sorrow to this unimaginable loss. The incident unfolded at 7:45 a.m. in a normally quiet Pacifica neighborhood. The alleged assailant, 46-year-old Jason Gillenwater, a firefighter paramedic with the Colma Fire Suppression District, is believed to be connected to the case.

Tragically, this horrifying event was not the first time Gillenwater’s presence had caused concern. He was previously arrested on December 14 for domestic violence at the same location, leading to a suspension from his position due to an emergency protective order. Court records reveal that police had visited the Naomi Avenue residence the day before the stabbing due to Gillenwater violating a restraining order. Despite police orders prohibiting Gillenwater from possessing firearms, he managed to obtain a gun and was found dead in Mendocino County, approximately 100 miles away from the crime scene, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Ezra Pouech, remembered by friends and neighbors as an artist, a “fantastic” musician, and a lover of photography, leaves a lasting legacy of creativity and kindness. His family fondly recalls his ability to connect with all creatures and adored children. The Vallemar neighborhood in Pacifica gathered to pay their respects to those affected by this senseless violence. As the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragedy, the memory of Ezra Raymond Pouech will endure as a testament to the enduring power of love, art, and the indomitable spirit that Ezra brought to the world. May he rest in peace, and may his family find strength and solace in the memories of the joy and warmth he brought to their lives.
