Frank Reich’s Career
For more than a decade, Frank Reich was a quarterback for various teams in the National Football League. He began his NFL career in 1985, after being picked in the third round by the Buffalo Bills. Frank, who grew up in Freeport, New York, played baseball, football, and basketball in high school.
He went on to play NCAA football at the University of Maryland as a backup quarterback to future NFL great Boomer Esiason after graduating from Cedar Crest High School. Reich spent most of his NFL career as a backup quarterback. Despite being with the Bills for over a decade, he didn’t participate in a game until 1989, when starting quarterback Jim Kelly was sidelined with a shoulder ailment.
After being released by the Bills in 1994, he went on to play for the Carolina Panthers, New York Jets, and Detroit Lions. Reich left the NFL after the end of the 1998 season. In 2014, Bill Polian, a well-known football executive, called him the best quarterback in NFL history.
