Barack Obama, Chadwick Boseman, Adele, Eminem win Emmy Awards

Publish date: 2024-06-27

Emmy Awards were won by Barack Obama, Chadwick Boseman, Adele, and Eminem on September 3, 2023.

Obama clinched the best narrator Emmy for his work on the Netflix documentary series, “Our Great National Parks.”

The five-part show, which showcases national parks from around the globe, is produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, “Higher Ground.”

This Emmy Award adds to his two Grammys, placing him midway to an EGOT.

Previously, Barack Obama secured Grammy Awards for his audiobook reading of two of his memoirs, “The Audacity of Hope” and “A Promised Land.” Meanwhile, Michelle Obama obtained her own Grammy for reading her audiobook in 2020.

The term EGOT refers to entertainers who have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. To date, only 17 individuals have achieved this feat.

Barack Obama is the second president to hold an Emmy. Dwight D. Eisenhower received a special Emmy Award in 1956.

On the other hand, the late Chadwick Boseman was honored with an Emmy for his voice work.

The Black Panther actor triumphed for outstanding character voiceover in the Disney+ and Marvel Studios animated show “What If…?”

In this show, Boseman voiced his Black Panther character T’Challa in an alternate universe where he becomes Star-Lord from “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

This project was one of the final endeavors for Boseman, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 43 due to colon cancer.

Additionally, Adele secured her first Emmy win, leaving her just one award away from an EGOT.

Adele was awarded the Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) Emmy for her CBS special “One Night Only”. This brings the acclaimed songwriter closer to EGOT status.

With an Emmy, several Grammys, and an Oscar, Adele now only requires a Tony to complete the collection and join the esteemed group of artists who have achieved all four awards.

Furthermore, Eminem also emerged victorious with an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special, although his was for the live version; in contrast, Adele’s was pre-recorded.

Eminem, Dre, and the rest of the SB gang are now all Emmy winners for their Halftime Show performance earlier this year.

Consequently, Eminem is just a Tony away from EGOT, as highlighted by his longtime manager, Paul Rosenberg, on Twitter.
